The West Coast Zonals Super Cup final between Foni and Gunjur at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium lived up to its billing, with Gunjur claiming the title after a tense penalty shootout.
Gunjur took control early, and in the 18th minute, Lamin Jammeh (#17) converted a penalty after Foni's defensive error, putting Gunjur ahead 1-0. Despite Foni's efforts to respond, Gunjur's solid defense held strong, maintaining their lead at halftime.
Foni came back stronger in the second half, pushing for an equalizer. In the 61st minute, substitute Abubacarr Gibba connected with a header to make it 1-1, bringing the game back to life. Both teams created chances, but neither could score again, and the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
The match was decided by a penalty shootout, where Gunjur’s coach made a crucial decision by substituting the goalkeeper just before the end of regulation time. The move paid off, as the substitute goalkeeper saved two penalties, securing a 6-5 victory for Gunjur. This victory was particularly meaningful, as Gunjur had lost to Foni in a penalty shootout in last year’s final.
Gunjur took home the Super Cup trophy, medals, and a cash prize of 15,000 dalasi, while Foni earned 10,000 dalasi as runners-up.
