Senegal has unveiled a comprehensive social protection strategy

Senegal has unveiled a comprehensive social protection strategy aimed at supporting its most vulnerable citizens, including households living in extreme poverty and people with disabilities. The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs, is designed to provide direct financial assistance, improve access to basic services, and create pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

Under this new strategy, over 500,000 households will benefit from cash transfers, food support, and education subsidies, marking a significant step toward poverty alleviation and equitable development. The plan is part of Senegal's broader vision to foster inclusive governance, ensuring that all citizens have access to essential services and opportunities for a better life.

The government is also partnering with local and international organizations to implement programs focused on empowering women, improving healthcare access, and strengthening the social safety net. Minister of Social Affairs, Hon.

Mariama Sarr, emphasized that the strategy is built on a foundation of social equity. "We are committed to building a society where no one is left behind," she said.

This initiative has garnered praise from civil society groups and development partners, who see it as a major step toward achieving Senegal's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With continued focus on inclusion, the government aims to reduce poverty by 20% over the next five years.

As Senegal embarks on this ambitious path, the impact of the social protection strategy is expected to improve the lives of many, laying the groundwork for a more equitable and prosperous future.
